Rankings and Class
The ELO rating system ranks players based on their skill level in multiplayer games. Players gain more points by winning against a higher-rated opponent than by winning against a lower-rated opponent. Also, players lose more points if they lose a game against a lower-rated opponent. Every player starts with a rating of 1400 that increases when winning a game and decreases when losing a game. The rating can never go below 1000. Levels are used to classify ELO rating ranges and help players determine how good their opponent is before starting a game.
Xtreme Mode awards more points for wins and takes more points for losses than Classic Mode. Practice Mode does not affect your record or points.

Game Decks
A game deck is a group of 10 cards used during game play. The 10 cards in the game deck are split into a “Starters” and “Bench” lineup. You can change each lineup by dragging cards between the lineups. The Starters will start the first quarter and the Bench will start the second quarter. During halftime you can change the lineup again.
You can use two cards of the same player in a game deck, but only once per lineup. For example – Kobe Bryant cannot play both guard positions at the same time, but can play one guard position in the "Starters" lineup and one guard position in the "Bench lineup".

Xtreme Mode
“Xtreme” mode offers more strategic gameplay with more shot opportunities resulting in higher NBA-style scores! The matchups are based on a player’s chance of scoring, where no card is ever guaranteed to win a matchup. Instead, a higher rating simply increases a player's chance he will score.
Chance of Scoring
Before the players are shown, each has a 50 percent chance of winning the matchup. A range of 1-100 is used to show the odds with the Offense player using 1-50 and the Defense player using 51-100.
When both players are revealed, the Offense and Defense ratings are compared and the difference in points is awarded to the player with the highest rating. This increases his range and chance of winning the matchup!
Next a random number is generated between 1 and 100. If the number generated is in the Offense player’s range, he scores!
Example:
- Kobe Bryant’s 98 Offense rating shoots against Tony Parker’s 82 Defense rating. The rating difference is 16 points.
- Kobe Bryant has the higher rating so his odds are increased by 16 points (1-66), now giving him a 66 percent chance of winning the matchup. Tony Parker’s odds are then decreased by 16 points (67-100), giving him a 34 percent chance of winning the matchup.
- Random number generated is 48 and in Kobe Bryant’s range of 1-66. Kobe scores!
Increased Shot Attempts
Each team is allowed 16 shots per quarter, but every player must take at least two shots. This leaves 6 extra shots for your higher-rated players. In the matchup, a new random number is generated for each shot. Score more points by taking more shots with your best players!
Three-Pointers
Increase you score by taking 3-point shots. You must choose one of your opponent’s Guards as the defending player. Notice they are located outside the 3-point line.
Shot Management
Auto (default): Recommended. Automatically assigns your 6 remaining player shots for the best scoring chances possible!
Manual: Every player takes at least two shots each quarter, but you must manage the remaining 6 shots. Once you select your Offense player you can increase his shots up to 4 if available. Be careful not to waste your extra shots! They won’t transfer to the next quarter.
Offense and Defense
Each player must take one turn on offense and one turn on defense. After a matchup, the Offense player cannot shoot again and the Defense player cannot defend again. Once a player both shoots and defends in a quarter he is removed from play.
Shot Clock
Watch the shot clock! You have 24 seconds to make your selections. If time runs out, the ball is turned over to your opponent and you lose a shot. If you get six fouls in one game, you automatically lose.

Classic Mode
“Classic” mode follows the rules of the physical board game. The game play is simple and quick, but requires less strategy and results in lower scores. It is also easier for a player to win if they have the 10 best cards.
Tip Off
The first quarter starts with player one choosing his card on Offense, then choosing player two’s card on Defense that he wants to take a shot against.
Match-up
The Offense rating number inside the green box is compared to the Defense rating number inside the red box. The higher rating wins the matchup!
Rating Tie
If there is a tie, where a player’s Offense rating matches the other player’s Defense rating, the player with the highest Star rating wins the matchup. If the Star Ratings tie, the shot scores.
Shot Clock
Watch the shot clock! You have 24 seconds to make your selections. If time runs out, the ball is turned over to your opponent and you are charged with a foul. If you get six fouls in one game, you automatically lose.
Three-Pointers
To score a 3-point shot, a player must choose one of his opponent’s Guards as the defending player. Notice they are located outside the 3-point line.
Quarters
Once all of the five starting lineup cards for both players have been played, the quarter will end and the second quarter will begin with the bench lineup.
Halftime
At halftime you can change the cards in the Starters and Bench lineup or leave them unchanged. The Starters lineup will play the third quarter and the Bench lineup will play the fourth and final quarter.
Overtime
If the game ends in a tie, more quarters will be played until there is a winner at the end of a quarter.
